# Add a live chat widget to your website with SendWhale

> Set up the SendWhale live chat widget at /chat/:slug to handle visitor conversations and manage incoming messages from your workspace inbox.

SendWhale includes a live chat feature that lets you handle real-time conversations with website visitors directly from your workspace. You manage incoming messages from a central inbox, and visitors interact through a lightweight widget you embed on your site.

<Info>
  The live chat feature is in beta. Check the workspace integrations page for current availability and any active limitations.

## Workspace conversations inbox

All incoming chat messages appear in your workspace inbox. From there you can read, reply to, and manage conversations with visitors. Multiple team members with the appropriate workspace role can access the inbox and respond to conversations.

## Your public chat widget URL

Each workspace has a dedicated chat widget URL at `/chat/:slug`. Visitors who navigate to this URL open a standalone chat interface to start a conversation.

## Adding the widget to your website

You have two options for giving website visitors access to the chat:

1. **Embed the script** — copy the provided embed code from your workspace's chat settings and paste it into your website's HTML. This renders the chat widget as a floating button on your pages.
2. **Link directly** — add a link or button on your site that opens `/chat/:slug` in a new tab, letting visitors start a conversation without an embedded widget.

## Privacy considerations

Inform visitors that chat conversations are handled by your team and describe how you use the data they share, in accordance with your privacy policy. This is especially important if you collect names, email addresses, or other personal information through the chat.

## Availability and response times

Chat availability depends on your team's online status. Visitors who send messages when your team is offline will not receive an immediate response. Consider setting an away message or offline hours notice to manage visitor expectations clearly.
